Black History Month happens every October and is a celebration and recognition of Black history and culture within the UK. The focus for 2026 is ‘Honouring Our Communities,’ aiming to recognise the everyday and perhaps unnoticed contributions from Black people that keep communities thriving.
Understanding Black culture, heritage and its impact is so important.
Black history has shaped Britain’s national identity, and Black History Month aims to share these stories so that we can learn, discuss and reflect on this valuable part of history.
Black contributions have often been overlooked within society, so this month aims to raise awareness of both the struggles and achievements faced by Black communities. Although October allows a focused month for celebration, it is crucial to engage within these conversations all year round.
