What experience do you bring to your role as an LUU trustee?

I have worked at LUU for 25 years in a variety of roles. I have been in my current position since May 2025.

What do you love the most about LUU?
 
I love the fact that no two days are the same, you are constantly challenged and you can see the impact that your work is having on students.
 
What is your favourite spot in the LUU building and why?
 
Stylus, as I arrived when it was being built and organised the first ever event held there – Fruity!

Sylvie Waterhouse-Reed – Academic Experience

As a trustee, and Academic Experience Student Executive, I’ll be representing all Leeds’ student voices, with a particular focus on their educational journey.

What is your connection to LUU?

I am a student at the University of Leeds, though I’m taking a break from my degree to work in this role, studying Philosophy.

What is your favourite spot in the LUU building and why?

It would have to be the dance studios (Jade’s my fave). They’ve been a part of my uni life from the start – many ballet choreos have been endlessly practiced in there.

Dubem Okeke – International Student Experience

What experience do you bring to your role as an LUU trustee?

I bring experience in student leadership, organising events, community engagement and working with people from different backgrounds. My background in Architectural Engineering has taught me to think critically, solve problems and approach challenges from different perspectives. As International Student Exec, I bring a strong understanding of student experiences and a commitment to ensuring students’ voices are heard in decisions that affect them.

What is your connection to LUU?

I graduated from the University of Leeds in 2026 with a degree in Architectural Engineering.

What is your favourite spot in the LUU building and why?

The Pyramid Theatre! I love how it brings people together through events, performances and shared experiences. It’s a space where creativity, culture and community come to life.

Student Trustees

Yana Aghamiri 

What experience do you bring to your role as an LUU Trustee? 

As an undergraduate student who’s in her second year of study here, I hold the perspective of most other students at Leeds.

What is your connection to LUU?

I am a current student studying Ancient History.

What is your favourite spot in the LUU building and why?

Terrace and Old Bar purely for the socials that are held there!

Mian Feng 

What experience do you bring to your role as an LUU Trustee? 

I bring perspectives of studying in Leeds as an international PhD student, and perspectives of improving student belonging and engagement such as linguistics equality and accent bias.
 
I also have experience of working with Uni of Leeds students as a teaching assistant, tutor, research assistant, and student info advisor

What is your connection to LUU?

I’m a current student.

What is your favourite spot in the LUU building and why?

Co-op! I get a chocolate croissant every morning and it gives me a good start of the day!

Samira – Engagement and Development Subcommittee Chair

What experience do you bring to your role as an LUU trustee?

I have 18 years experience as an Employment Solicitor Advocate advising organisations how to manage employment relationships including incorporating legally compliant policies and representation in the employment tribunals.
 
I am a Mental Health First Aider and have a particular interest in discrimination. I have also been a trustee since December 2024.
 
What is your connection to LUU?
 
I am an alumni.
 
What is your favourite spot in the LUU building and why?
 
It’s all changed since I graduated in 2003 but I would say the Riley Smith theatre because it’s a great entertaining space.
 
 
 
 

 

Nicola Rogerson – People and Values Subcommittee Chair

What experience do you bring to your role as an LUU trustee?

I am a people leader with 19 years experience in HR.

What do you love most about LUU?

The inclusive culture created by the Union.

What is your favourite spot in the LUU building and why?

Main entrance/ reception area – the heart of the building and the buzz created at the start of a new academic year!

Josh Smith – Audit & Risk Committee Chair

What experience do you bring to your role as an LUU Trustee / Director? 

I’m a finance professional with more than 10 years of higher education experience, and previously have been an external auditor.

What is your connection to LUU?

I am alumni.

What is your favourite spot in the LUU building and why?

The foyer when you enter the building – you can always feel the buzz as you walk in.
