(Second-generation British Indian)
I am a story written across oceans, a map drawn with journeys before my own. British by birth, Indian by heritage, with roots reaching through Malawi, where my grandparents settled long ago.
My parents were born beneath African skies, before beginning new chapters in Britain. And here I am, another generation on, holding pieces of places I’ve never seen, connected to lands I’ve never walked.
I’ve travelled through many countries, yet India remains a dream in the distance, and Malawi a place known through stories, family memories, and echoes of the past.
My family tree stretches far and wide— across the UK, Eastern and Southern Africa, to Barbados, Panama, and Grenada. Scattered by history, opportunity, and time, yet still connected by invisible threads.
Sometimes my background feels unusual, a blend of journeys and identities I rarely find reflected in others. And then there is faith— another thread woven into who I am: a Muslim with Indian roots, carrying many stories within one life.
So I am learning to embrace the whole story: Britain, India, Malawi and beyond.
A tapestry of cultures, histories, and journeys, richer because every thread remains.
And one day I will stand in Malawi, and one day I will stand in India, not as a stranger, but as someone returning to chapters that have always been part of me.
