Student life is about more than lectures and deadlines: it’s about finding a place to belong. It is hard to imagine a week without a visit to Co-op, studying in Common Ground, or grabbing a drink in Terrace.
However, Leeds University Union (LUU) does so much more than what we see day to day, as it gives us the chance to be heard.
Every day, LUU pushes its students into achieving everything they can.
Clubs and Societies offer up so many opportunities for growth and skills, as well as student leadership. Every single society at LUU is built to support your growth, whether that be in friendship, academics or fun.
All our Clubs and Societies are represented in LUU by our Activities Exec. These are students who lead large groups of societies, such as Music and Performance, Academic and Sport. Becoming an Activities rep is such a brilliant way to get involved in LUU, and a great way to gain experience in student leadership. The Activities reps ensure that our activities team understand what the societies need on a more personal and involved level.
LUU is entirely democratic, with countless chances to express your own opinion.
Student Voice is entirely central in everything we do at LUU, with events such as Better Forums to make sure we never miss a thing from you. Better Forums gives students the opportunity to share their ideas for improvements in Leeds, at university and in the Union, which is then voted upon. Even the Better Forums have been improved after student feedback!
Our student exec keeps LUU connected to the student community. They lead on all important decisions and goals, and keep our strategy at the heart of everything we do. They keep LUU focused on putting students first, particularly with student voice. Caring for students is our job, and they keep the people at the forefront of LUU.
LUU’s uniqueness comes from its focus on student voice. Every event, campaign, and opportunity exists because students have spoken up about what matters to them.
From sustainability to wellbeing, the changes seen across campus often start with one person sharing an idea or raising a concern. Leeds University Union proves that when students speak up, real change happens. Your voice has value, and it deserves to be heard.
