Trying to juggle rent, food and fun on a student budget can be very difficult to deal with, but how can Leeds University Union (LUU) help? LUU runs a temporary work service, called JobLink, to help students feel a little more relaxed when it comes to money.
JobLink offers one-off shifts, temporary placements and permanent part-time work in countless businesses all over the city. Any of these three things can be imperative for student life to stay comfortable, and this is our priority at LUU.
It has given me a platform to develop essential skills required for corporate life whilst still being a student.
I believe it’s taught me that pushing yourself out of your comfort zone, which we don’t typically tend to get an opportunity to do as a university student, is a great way to develop as a person. As Marketing Coordinator, I have honed my time management, communication and confidence skills, and this job in particular has taught me the importance of being adaptable as an employee. Overall, I really enjoy working at LUU.
Yes, it’s an open office environment so there’s always a friendly new face to get to know at LUU and the marketing department are in constant communication too which makes it fun and perfect for the nature of the job.
Absolutely! I am so grateful I found out about this opportunity through JobLink and they really are there for you no matter what you need so definitely check them out.
JobLink and LUU both support all our student members of staff and appreciate that working alongside university can be incredibly difficult, but often completely necessary. LUU cares, and we believe that working alongside students is what keeps you happy and supported.
