Recently, we’ve seen an increase in Anti-Palestinian hatred, Islamophobia, and abusive language in the comments on our social media channels.
Inclusivity is one of our core organisational values, and that means all our spaces, including online, should be welcoming and respectful.
We’ve introduced new Community Guidelines to help shape how we interact online, ensuring that everyone in our community is treated with dignity and respect.
Our social media channels exist for students to connect, share experiences, find support, and celebrate what makes our community unique.
We encourage healthy discussion and debate, but we will not tolerate hate speech, bullying, personal attacks, or discrimination of any kind, including any types of racism, (including Islamophobia, Anti-Palestinian hatred, and Antisemitism) sexism, homophobia, transphobia, ableism or classism.
At Leeds University Union, we’re committed to ensuring that no one is discriminated against on the grounds of age, disability, gender reassignment, marriage or civil partnership, pregnancy or maternity, race, religion or belief, sex, or sexual orientation.
This list isn’t exhaustive, we’ll take action against any form of discrimination. We believe that equality and inclusion build communities that are more compassionate, creative, and resilient.
We actively work to amplify the voices of all students, especially those who have historically been marginalised within our community. We’re also committed to being recognised as an anti-racist organisation, a commitment that continues to guide our work every day.
If you’re engaging with us on social media, please take a moment to read our new guidelines and help us keep our online spaces safe, supportive, and welcoming for everyone.
