LeadLUU nominations are now open!
With brand-new positions opening this year, and a complete restructuring of the system, we are so excited for what this year’s elections hold.
But what will these positions look like?
Let’s take a look at the Liberation Engagement Leaders, and what these Student Leaders will do.
The role of a Liberation Engagement Officer is vital to the restructuring of LUU.
The 5 officers will represent, support, and organise alongside different marginalised groups that exist within our diverse student community- and work hard to ensure that all students love their time at Leeds.
These roles are perfectly designed to do alongside your studies, and therefore do not require election winners to undertake a sabbatical year or to be completed at the end of your studies.
They will work alongside the Welfare and Liberation Officer, focusing on making our space and community as accessible, safe, and comfortable as possible- with consideration for everyone.
Giving these communities a voice ensures that LUU is the open, happy space that we aim for it to be.
This role prioritises our LGBTQ+ students, and helps make LUU a better place for them. We ask that only people that self-identify as LGBTQ+ apply for this role to ensure that the community is properly and accurately represented.
This role aims to create an equal, peaceful atmosphere for students of all genders. We ask that only people that self-identify as a marginalised gender apply for this role to ensure that the community is properly and accurately represented.
Race & Ethnicity Engagement Leader:
This role will create a fair, representative space for students of all races and ethnicities. We ask that only people that self-identify as a marginalised race or ethnicity apply for this role to ensure that the community is properly and accurately represented.
Disabled & Neurodivergent Engagement Leader:
This role will be vital in ensuring that LUU is a completely accessible place for people with any disability and/or neurodivergence. We ask that only people who identify as disabled or neurodivergent apply for this role to ensure that the community is properly and accurately represented.
Class & Social Inequalities Engagement Leader:
This role will ensure that students opportunities do not differ based on their circumstances, and aim to create a positive working atmosphere for all students, regardless of class. We ask that only students who self-identify as being from a marginalised class apply, to ensure that the community is properly and accurately represented. This may include working-class students, student-parents, estranged students and more.
