We spoke to Cailin (1st Team Captain) and Lucy (1st Team Player) from the University of Leeds Women’s Hockey team.
Our Women’s Hockey team brings a huge amount of energy every time they step onto the pitch, and Varsity is no exception. They describe themselves as a passionate and fiery team, and they’re going into this year’s game ready for a seriously competitive match.
They’ll be facing the players that they usually play with on weekends, but instead against them on rival sides. The team described the fans as always “giving it their all on the sidelines” which definitely adds to the competitive but fun atmosphere.
More than anything, they’re excited to get out there, give it their all and enjoy every minute of it taking part in a rivalry that only makes it even more enjoyable!
After taking the win last year, Women’s Hockey are heading into Varsity 2026 determined to keep that momentum going. They’ve had a strong run of results over the past few months and feel like they’re in a great position going into the big game. They’re excited to play, and are aiming to carry that winning legacy forward.
For Women’s Hockey, Varsity is not just about the game, it’s about everything that comes with it. They’re already looking forward to celebrating with “big pres and a big night out” Fruity afterwards. Whether they’re celebrating a win or just letting off steam after a big match, they see it as the perfect way to round off the day and make the most of the Varsity experience.
