We spoke to the University of Leeds Tennis team.
The Tennis Society is one of the biggest sports societies here at LUU, and the team are absolutely raring to go as they head into this year’s Varsity.
Although Tennis has never won Varsity, last year they secured their first win within the competition, which has given them a real boost going into 2026. With a strong rivalry against Leeds Beckett, they are hopeful for even more success this year.
After a number of tough losses in previous years, motivation can sometimes be low, but the team describe themselves as a really “tight-knit group” who stay dedicated and continue to push each other.
Being such a big society also makes a difference at Varsity, with a huge turnout of supporters. While regular matches may not draw big crowds, Varsity brings everyone together, creating an exciting atmosphere that really motivates the players.
No matter the result, Tennis are just as excited for what comes after the game. They are looking forward to watching the Rugby finale and, of course, celebrating at Fruity. Whether they are celebrating a win or simply enjoying the end of the competition, it is something the whole team is really looking forward to.
