Make your student group part of the movement for a safer, more inclusive campus
The SASHA Accreditation Programme is a student-led initiative created by SASHA (Students Against Sexual Harassment & Assault) and your Union Affairs & Communications Officer, Amara Relf. It is all about empowering student groups to take an active role in preventing sexual harassment and assault on campus.
Through training, action, and recognition, the programme helps to create a safe community where consent, respect, and inclusion are at the heart of student life.
How does it work?
- Consent Training
Members of your student group executive committee will take part in an engaging workshop, led by trained Consent Ambassadors, covering key topics such as consent, boundaries, and how to be an active bystander. - Achieving Accreditation
After training, your group will need to complete a series of actions based on guidance from Leeds University Union (LUU). These actions will show how you are applying what you’ve learned to help make your events, spaces, and culture safer for everyone. - Get Recognised
Upon completing these steps, your student group will be awarded with SASHA Accreditation, a badge of commitment to a respectful, inclusive student community.
Why get involved?
- Build a safer and more inclusive group culture
- Stand out as a values-led, accredited student group
- Be a part of a movement actively changing campus culture
- Make a difference to student safety
Accreditation Criteria
– Share an educational post on social media to inform and engage members about what the society has learned regarding consent or being an active bystander. This could be in the form of an infographic or a short video or reel.
– Organise a fundraiser in support of a charity focused on combatting sexual violence, or providing survivor support (e.g. SARSVL, Ben’s Place, Rape Crisis, Leeds Women’s Aid).
– Host an event centered on themes such as consent and active bystander intervention- for example: a panel discussion, film screening, or quiz night.
– As a committee, create, or co-create with members, a group-specific safety commitment statement for social events. This should include a commitment to practical steps, such as assigning sober committee members, providing quiet spaces, or actively promoting safe travel. Share this commitment on social media, event pages, or directly with members before events.
– Collaborate on an event or activity with another student group, including but not limited to liberation groups, to raise awareness around issues of consent, sexual violence, and active bystander awareness.
– Create and distribute a resource guide for members that includes local and national survivor support services, how to report incidents, and available support options.
– Organise and run a discussion session for your wider committee or leaders focused on what you have learned from the training and how you, as leaders, can keep your student group safe.
