It’s been a month since our last update, and behind the scenes at LUU, a huge amount has been happening! From Better Forums to Leeds Ball, it’s been busy for students in Leeds.
Over the past month, our Student Exec ,Amara, Eden, Safiyah, Katrina, Lydia, and Shivani, have been working hard to improve student life at Leeds, strengthen student voices, and make a real impact locally and beyond.
Here’s what they’ve been up to!
Shivani launched The Book Swap after a year of working closely with students to develop the initiative and promote both sustainability and financial support.
She represented students at a national level, speaking in Parliament and engaging directly with key sector leaders, including Vivienne Stern.
She partnered with the University of Leeds to secure the future of The Diversity Blog, ensuring the platform could continue to amplify diverse student voices and experiences.
Amara secured a permanent Muslim Chaplain position in partnership with LUU and the Islamic Society.
She developed LUU’s community engagement strategy, creating stronger links between the Students’ Union, local communities, and civic leaders across the city.
She secured the future continuation of the SASHA (Students Against Sexual Harassment & Assault) Accreditation Programme, helping to support and make changes surrounding student safety.
She grew the ‘Making Misogyny a Hate Crime’ campaign to more than 100,000 signatures and is due to visit Downing Street for conversations with MPs!
Katrina supported the development of two successful Better Forums ideas, helping students turn their suggestions into meaningful changes across the University and LUU.
She chaired the LSMP x LUU Forum, creating a space for discussion that improved understanding of students’ experiences with GP services.
She supported the PGR Forum, sharing updates on key priorities affecting postgraduate researchers and ensuring their voices were represented in ongoing discussions.
Saffy launched the Women’s Health Campaign, providing students with confidential access to physical health and wellbeing resources across campus.
She reviewed LUU’s partnership policy to help ensure that the Students’ Union’s partnerships and collaborations align with its ethical standards and values.
