We spoke to the University of Leeds Women’s Football team.
Women’s Football is one of the quickest growing sports in the United Kingdom right now, as well as experiencing record-breaking global growth. Over the past couple of years, we have seen sold out stadiums, heightened professional wages, and more opportunities for both grassroots and established teams.
The University of Leeds wants to represent women’s football on a whole for the entire student community in Leeds. They described university football as growing more year after year, seeing more people attending matches as spectators, as well as more trying out during trials- they find this growth “very exciting!”
The growth in the women’s game is clear to see, whether it’s social football or Varsity. The team want everyone to feel included, and feel that is what’s so special about their team.
Women’s Football are extremely eager ahead of this year’ Varsity face off, and desperately want “uni of to go out and win!” Varsity is very important to them as a society, especially their society President, who was born and bred in Leeds.
Beckett have won the past two games in a row against the University of Leeds, but UoL are keen to remind them that they won Varsity last year, and will be back to fight to retain their winning title, and keep the momentum going.
With UoL constantly improving, they’re excited to celebrate their (hopeful) win by watching the Varsity Rugby Finale, and then going to Fruity!
