Leeds University Students' Union- Social Media Community Guidelines

At Leeds University Students’ Union (LUU), our social media channels are spaces for students to connect, share experiences, find support, and celebrate what makes our community unique.

We want everyone to feel welcome, respected, and safe while engaging with us online.

By interacting with our pages, you are agreeing to follow these community guidelines.

Be Respectful

  • Treat everyone with kindness and consideration.
  • We welcome debate and discussion but won’t tolerate hate speech, bullying, personal attacks, or discrimination of any kind (including racism, sexism, homophobia, transphobia, ableism, or classism).
  • Remember: there’s a real person behind every comment.

 No Harassment or Harmful Content

  • Do not post or share anything that could be harmful, threatening, defamatory, or incite violence.
  • We will remove any content that promotes illegal activity or endangers the wellbeing of others, authorities could be alerted.
  • Harassment or hate speech will be sent to the relevant authorities.

Keep It Safe and Legal

  • Respect privacy: don’t share anyone’s personal information (including your own) or confidential details.
  • Don’t post copyrighted materials, or misleading information.
  • Advertising, commercial promotions, or political campaigning are not permitted unless authorised by LUU.

 Be Supportive

  • We encourage positive conversations, helpful advice, and sharing experiences that uplift others.
  • If you see someone struggling, signpost them to LUU support services or university wellbeing resources rather than engaging in unsafe advice.

Moderation

  • Our social media channels are monitored by the LUU Communications Team during working hours (Monday–Friday, 9am–5pm).
  • We reserve the right to hide or delete posts and comments that break these guidelines, and to block users for repeated or severe breaches.
