A Statement From Your Exec on the Recent Far Right Marches

As the Student Executive at Leeds University Union, we are proud to be a part of a diverse and inclusive Leeds community, we are outraged by the recent targeted attacks on racialised people, the anti-immigrant marches, and other far-right campaigns seen across the UK. We see them as acts of intimidation, islamophobia, racism, misogyny, xenophobia, and hate.
We acknowledge that these marches have created fear and distress for many students across campuses and communities, and it is felt deeply by immigrant and refugee students, international students, racialised students, female students, Muslim students, Sikh students, and other marginalised communities. We stand with all our student communities and want to offer support and reassurance for the year ahead.
As your Student Exec, we are actively working to dismantle the culture of harassment and racism on and off campus. As part of our work this year, we are committed to:
– Providing tailored support and culturally informed wellbeing services
– Delivering educational anti-racist workshops and resources
– Challenging harassment and discrimination wherever it appears
– Zero tolerance for racist content and behaviour
– Tackling sexual violence
– Uplifting anti-racism work and student-led activism
You can find more information and updates about our work on our Exec Blog.
We stand with our students united against racism, misogyny, and all forms of hate. Together, we will build a campus rooted in justice, safety, and solidarity.
